FLO Case Management

Flexible Learning Options (FLO) is a Department of Education and Child Development (DECD) enrolment option in schools that promotes a more flexible approach for supporting successful engagement of young people (year 6 up to 21 years of age) most at risk of disengaging with learning.

FLO seeks to address the young person's underlying issues with living through personalised case management and/or engagement in a local FLO student learning program, whilst providing them with opportunities to engage in meaningful learning which is accredited and which leads to further training and employment.

Employment Directions, as a FLO Case Management provider, offers schools intensive, flexible and tailored assistance with some of the most vulnerable and disengaged students.  We then work in collaboration with schools to get them engaged with learning, connected with the community and on track to achieve meaningful career transitions.  We are based locally in the region and offer convenient, professional and experienced support to connect students to accredited and non-accredited learning options.

CASE STUDIES

(Not their real names):

Ryan 16
Despite being highly intelligent with highly developed literacy skills Ryan was not able to cope with a mainstream classroom learning environment. His behaviour led to frequent suspensions and exclusions.  Working with his FLO Case Manager Ryan was able to access a learning program which was flexible and accessible from home as well as a behavioural support service to assist him to develop more appropriate classroom skills.  Ryan is now employed in a Traineeship with a local fast food business as well as studying towards a Certificate II in Information Technology.

Jason 16
Jason suffered severe anxiety meaning he was unable to attend school and could not even leave the house.  With intensive support from his FLO Case Manager as well as gradual integration in to small group activities such as Getting Your L’s, Life Skills and Learning Support Jason is now engaging with his sporting activity and is about to return to school to continue with his education.

Felicity 16
Felicity is a bright young lady very focussed on a career in Hairdressing.  Mainstream schooling was not for her and she was ready to move in to TAFE to start her career.  Behavioural issues at school led to truancy issues and multiple suspensions.  With the assistance of her FLO Case manager Felicity has been able to enrol in her Hairdressing and Beauty courses.  Felicity has completed her Certificate II and is well on the way to finishing Certificate III.  Her next step is to access work experience with a view to starting an apprenticeship with a local business.
